Coo demo of a 3d display with multitouch and off-screen gestural control.
We transform an LCD into a display that supports both 2D multi-touch and unencumbered 3D gestures. Our BiDirectional (BiDi) screen, capable of both image capture and display, is inspired by emerging LCDs that use embedded optical sensors to detect multiple points of contact. We exploit the spatial light modulation capability of LCDs to allow lensless imaging without interfering with display functionality.
Found this today while looking at Virtual Earth integration. Sounds perfect.
InfoStrat.VE allows WPF and Microsoft Surface developers to take full advantage of Virtual Earth 3D with minimal overhead. Simply reference the dll, add a single VEMap control to your XAML, and you have a map! The control eliminates the Win32 Interop restrictions, so you can do everything with this VE control that you could do with any native WPF control, including:
Overlay items (no more transparent windows!)
Rotate and transform the map within the interface (no more boring rectangles, bring on the 360 degree interfaces!)
Use the map within a Visual Brush (you know you want faded reflections!)
On Tuesday XChange International announced Electric Rain’s ZAM 3D, a 3D Modeling application that supports XAML.
Electric Rain ZAM 3D™ is a full-featured 3D modelling application that enables easy creation, customisation and animation of 3D interface elements for Windows Vista based applications. Once a 3D scene is created, ZAM 3D automatically generates the XAML (eXtensible Application Markup Language) markup necessary to convert the 3D elements into a Windows Presentation Foundation “WPF” (formally Avalon) 3D scene.
For the Japanese launch of Vista in December 06 Bascule launched a project to show off the capabilities of WPF 3D. They did a really great job of taking a platform that was in it’s infancy and, rather than focusing on the technology, kept things simple and applied their unique style to it. The result is a bizarre 3D experience that’s difficult to explain.
Once you launch the application click the camera icon to take control of the view, click and drag to look around.
After looking around the Bascule site I have to say I love this agecy. I have no idea what it says but their work is completely out to lunch. It’s a great combo of art and technology.
