Silverlight Mobile coming this spring

According to the Silverlight website,Silverlight Mobile will be released in Q2 208. Unfortunately, it will be 1.0. But hey, we’ll take what we can get.

Q: When will Silverlight 1.0 be available for mobile?
A: We will have the First Developer CTP for Silverlight for mobile available in 2nd Quarter of CY 2008 targeting Windows Mobile 6.

Q: What form will Silverlight take on mobile?
A: Silverlight on mobile will take the form of a browser plug-in, the same as the web version.

Q: Which version of Silverlight will run on devices? 1.0 or 2?
A: Initially Silverlight 1.0 will run on mobile devices.

Q: What tools will be used to develop Silverlight mobile applications?
A: Because XAML is the foundation of Silverlight, Microsoft Expression Studio will provide features for designing Silverlight. Expression Design can be used for creating the visual elements while wiring the design with code can be done with either Expression Blend or with Visual Studio.

Details on the new WPF Yahoo Messenger Beta features

While showing off the Yahoo Messenger Beta at MIX08, Yahoo confirmed that a new beta is on the way.

  • Free PC-to-PC calls
  • Low-cost PC-to-Phone calls
  • Phone-to-PC calls for those that have a Phone In number
  • Free SMS from the PC to mobile phones
  • WPF 3D will be used to display audio visualizations during phone conversations
  • Yahoo Mail alerts

Nokia to use Microsoft’s Silverlight to deliver rich media to smart phones

Nokia announced plans today to make Microsoft’s Silverlight plug-in available on its S60 smartphones, Series 40 devices and internet tablets running Symbian OS.
